  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

You have definitely captured the Essence of Bird in that first photo. :)

It looks like you had a great weekend, Claire. I bet you'd like to nap for a week.

Looks like a good time was had by all.

What will Bertie be doing for the embassy and how can I get one of those jobs?

Bird is indeed neat. I hope she has a wonderful experience in Mexico.

That top photo is so great. I just love her expression. Glad you guys had so much fun!

It was a good weekend, very full. Too full to meet up with the blogger fun that was AG/UC and the gang. :( And I would like a nap. Or someone to come clean, organize and pack my apartment up for me.

So sad to have missed the fun, but when I saw the first picture, I heard the scream (even before you described it). The Bird is the best.

Thanks, Ferd! I can't wait until we have a chance to catch up-- I can't wait to hear about your new life in Chicago! :)

You could do what AG did to avoid the packing thing -- take a job with a relocation package and ask your boyfriend to be at your home when the movers come. Then you go off to a resort, leaving him with the dog and your stuff to contend with, and have a pedicure in paradise.

The packing and stress is so much easier to manage that way.
